Choosing when to elope in Tuscany is just as important as choosing where. Tuscany is beautiful year-round, but certain seasons offer a much better balance of comfortable weather, fewer crowds, and that dreamy, romantic atmosphere most couples are craving.
Spring (April–May): One of the Best Overall Choices
Spring is hands-down one of the best times to elope in Tuscany. The countryside comes alive with fresh greenery, wildflowers, and soft, golden light. Temperatures are mild and comfortable, making it ideal for exploring hill towns, wandering Florence, and spending time outdoors without the intense summer heat. Crowds begin to pick up in May, especially in Florence, but they’re still very manageable — especially if you plan sunrise ceremonies or weekday elopements.
Best for: Mild weather, lush landscapes, and romantic city + countryside days
Things to note: Early spring can bring occasional rain, so flexibility is key
Summer (June–August): Beautiful but Crowded & Hot
There’s no denying that summer in Tuscany is stunning — long days, golden light, and warm evenings — but it’s also peak tourist season. Florence and popular towns can feel extremely busy, and temperatures often climb into the high 80s and 90s°F (30–35°C). If you’re set on a summer elopement, early mornings, countryside locations, or private villas are the way to go to avoid crowds and heat.

If I had to pick the best time to elope in Tuscany, fall would be it. September and October offer warm (but not scorching) weather, fewer tourists than summer, and absolutely stunning colors across the countryside. It’s also harvest season, which means vineyards are buzzing and the food and wine experiences are especially incredible. The light is softer, the pace feels slower, and everything just feels more intimate.

Winter (November–March): Quiet, Moody & Underrated

Where to Stay
There are many amazing places to stay in Tuscany, Italy! Whether you’re drawn to a charming Airbnb with a view of the Duomo in the heart of Florence, a luxurious boutique hotel, or want to experience agriturismo villa in the countryside with stunning views, there’s something for every couple. At the start, you should stay somewhere close to your elopement location to avoid long commutes. Also, a hotel may be a better fit, if you’d like someone to take care of all the cleaning for you, or maybe even have a breakfast included, or a special wedding package!
Of course, you can extend your trip beyond your elopement day! Italy is the perfect place for a honeymoon, so consider splitting your stay between regions to experience more of its beauty!
WHat to Eat
One of the absolute highlights of eloping in Tuscany is the food, and planning a few intentional meals into your day (or the days around it) makes the experience even more special. In Florence, you’ll find everything from cozy trattorias tucked down quiet side streets to elevated, candlelit restaurants perfect for a post-ceremony celebration — think handmade pasta, seasonal ingredients, and incredible wine in settings that feel intimate and romantic. Outside the city, Tuscany’s countryside shines through farm-to-table dining, family-run agriturismos, and wineries that pair sweeping views with unforgettable meals. Whether you’re lingering over a long lunch in the hills, celebrating with a private dinner at your villa, or grabbing gelato while wandering Florence’s streets, food in Tuscany isn’t just something you eat — it’s part of the experience, and a beautiful way to slow down and savor your elopement day.
One of my personal favorite restaurants is Fuoco Matto! Every time I go back to Florence over the past few years I make sure to eat my favorite pizza there at least once (but often I get it multiple times in one trip! lol). My fave pizza to get there is the 'nduja and burrata pizza! I remember also having an amazing ravioli dish at Osteria Vecchio Vicolo along with some delicious tiramisu.
Florence is also known to have wine windows scattered throughout the city! It's so fun to ring the bell, order a glass of wine, and people watch along the road while drinking a delicious glass of wine! A wine window to check out is BABAE but you can find so many more while wandering around the city!
Lastly, enjoy ALL the gelato! I recommend looking for gelato that is covered in metal tins or, if not covered, at least in natural colors (like pistachio gelato, which is a cream, brownish-green color and not bright green!)! If you come across gelato that looks like colorful mountains, it’s not going to be that good. I recommend Vivoli - it can be busy/touristy but it is super yummy!
Tuscany Elopement Activities
There are so many things you can do in Tuscany! Especially if you choose to elope AND stay there for your whole honeymoon! That would definitely give you plenty of time to travel around and explore more than one city or explore one city but more in-depth! Here are some ideas of what to do in Tuscany:
- It goes without saying, but enjoy all the food!
- Wine taste in the Chianti region! (One of my personal favorite experiences I've done.)
- Book a private cooking class and learn how to make pasta and tiramisu. (So fun!!)
- Rent a vintage car and explore the countryside. Maybe take a ride to Val d'Orcia and see the cypress tree-tined road at sunset.
- Go on a Vespa ride through Florence or the Tuscan countryside.
- Hot air balloon ride over the countryside.
- Horseback riding through the vineyards. (I did something similar in Naples and it was so fun!)
- Boat ride along the Arno river.
- Run around the town of Montepulciano like a vampire (ya know, perfect if you're a Twilight fan. lol)
